Our Doctors

Dr. Lawrence Koehler & Deke

Dr. Koehler started at Jensen's in 1973 and began doing mostly large animal and equine work. Over the years he transitioned to small animal surgery and orthopedics. He is now primarily a small animal practitioner and skilled in anterior cruciate ligament repairs, fracture repairs and other orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Orthopedic Society. Dr. Koehler stays busy with triathlon training, ice climbing and many other sports.

Dr. Sara Michelin with Mist, Sage & Eachan

Dr. Michelin has been with Jensen's since 1985. She is our only primarily equine veterinarian and has interests in lameness and reproduction. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Michigan Veterinary Medical Association and American Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Michelin excels at herding with her dogs and endurance riding.

Dr. Ryan Warnemuende & Decker

Dr. Warnemuende (but you can call him Dr. Ryan!) joined us in 2007 from Michigan State University. Dr. Ryan is our primary bovine veterinarian. He has special interests in small animal surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology and bovine medicine. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Warnemuende grew up in Frankenmuth and is an avid hunter and angler and enjoys camping and watching sports such as MSU basketball, the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and Lions. He and his wife Janelle and their son Jack live in Petoskey.

Dr. Kara Henning and Nia

Dr. Henning joined Jensen's in 2009 after graduating from Michigan State University. She has special interests in ultrasound, dentistry, ophthalmology, internal medicine, and feline medicine. She loves living in beautiful northern Michigan with her husband, Matt, sons Drew & Harrison, and sweet dog Clifford & cat, Maple. Dr. Henning is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, and The American Association of Feline Practitioners.

Dr. Catherine Bair & Jade

Dr. Bair graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015 and completed her clinical rotations at Michigan State University. She has special interest in geriatric pain control, ultrasound, and soft tissue surgery. She lives in Boyne City with her dog, Jade and cat, Finnegan, MaMa Kitty and her ducks. She is a member of the Michigan State Veterinary Medical Association and American Veterinary Medical Association. She enjoys spending time outside playing softball, horseback riding, hiking, and hunting.

Dr. Lucille Carter & Paul

Dr. Carter graduated from Michigan State University in 2018. She has special interest in dermatology, soft tissue surgery, and equine medicine. Dr. Carter lives in Alanson with her dog Paul, kitty Sophia, and her 2 goldfish Lumpy and Gravy. She is a member of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Carter enjoys spending time outdoors, knitting, reading and playing the piano.

Our Staff

Marcie & Mya

Marcie joined us in 2005 and is now our office manager. She works very hard to make sure our hospital runs smoothly and our clients and patients receive the best possible care. She shares her home with her German Shepard, Mya; her devoted cat, Mr. Fatty; her cockatiel, Solei; her adorable son, Grant; and her husband, Jay. Marcie enjoys spending time with her family and participating in a variety of outdoor adventures.

Dianna & Snazzy

Dianna started working for Jensen's part time in 2004 and we loved her so much she joined our team full time in 2011. She worked on an Alpaca farm for many years and is very knowledgeable in all farm & small animals. She lives with her husband, Kurt; her dogs, Spy, J.D., Zedd, Pheria and Gracie; her cat Zoom; and several alpacas and dexter Cattle. Dianna enjoys being outside, camping, hiking, biking, racing sled dogs, gardening and working on her farm.

Mindy & Tipper

Mindy has been with Jensen's since 2003 and is our large animal assistant. She has a special interest in helping on farm calls, especially bovine, although she enjoys assisting with a variety of animals. Mindy and her husband, Bo have an amazing Goat & Sheep Farm called Willow Hill Farm in Charlevoix. She enjoys milking her goats to make incredible cheeses. She encourages everyone to spay and neuter their pets.

Kortney & Zahra

Kortney joined our team in 2019 after graduating with an Associate of Applied Science and Veterinary Technology. Growing up she was a part of the Emmet Charlevoix 4-H Market Livestock Program, showing pigs and cattle. Now she is a volunteer in the program helping and teaching the youth. She enjoys working with both large and small animals. Working hard to make sure our patients feel safe, comfortable and have good experiences during their visits. In her free time she enjoys photography, hiking, kayaking, skiing, camping, hunting, horseback riding, and agility with her German Shepherd.

Kirstin & Sookie

Kirstin joined us in 2012 and is a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She worked for many years in human medicine, but followed her heart back to veterinary medicine, and we are very grateful. She enjoys working with people and LOVES cats! She shares her home with her 5 rescue animals. 4 cats, Dreyfuss, Jake Ryan, Scarlett and Astrid and her dog, Sookie Sue.

Stacy & Reuben

Stacy joined our team in June 2015, and is our Senior Client Care Specialist. She works very hard making sure each animal feels comfortable during their visit at Jensen's Animal Hospital. Stacy and her husband, along with her 3 amazing daughters, Abby, Jamie, and Willow have a beautiful farm where they raise cows, goats, pigs, and chickens, along with an extensive vegetable garden.

Liz & Mia

Liz has rejoined our incredible team as a fantastic veterinary technician assistant. Liz is an extremely talented musician who also enjoys snowboarding, running, biking and gardening. She lives in Petoskey with her dog, Mia; and two cats, Beckham and Sophie.

Tara & Cannoli

Tara joined our fantastic client care team in the fall of 2016 and works hard maintaining a professional and friendly experience for our clients and patients. Tara shares her home with her rambunctious dog, Cannoli. She enjoys our beautiful summers here in Northern Michigan.

Luke & Logan

Luke joined our outstanding client care team in March of 2017 and works hard making every experience at Jensens's Animal Hospital happy and enjoyable. He and his wife, Julie share their lovely home in Petoskey with their 3 beautiful girls, Norah, Clare and Elsie. Luke enjoys baseball, camping, various outdoor activities and time with his family.

Sara & Onigiri

Sara joined our team in March 2017 and is a wonderful Veterinary Assistant that enjoys making sure all of our patient are safe and comfortable. She recently moved back to her hometown of Petoskey after spending 8 years working in Jackson, WY, and is thrilled to be back working in Northern Michigan. Sara's newest outdoor hobby is fishing on our great rivers and lakes with her boyfriend, Dave.

Karya & Mellow Yellow

Karya Joined us in the spring of 2020 after moving back home to Cheboygan. She has been in the veterinary field for over ten years. She lives with her husband Nate and shares her home with her furry babies Roz and her 2 crazy kitties Unity and Tiabeanie. She also has chickens that she calls her “gentle giants”. In her spare time, she enjoys doc diving and herding with Roz, kayaking, fishing/hunting, and growing her vegetable garden.

Nichole & Stella

Nichole joined our team in 2017 as our Exam Room Technician. She works very hard at making every animal feel relaxed and comfortable during their examinations. Nichole currently is pursuing her certification as a medical assistant and hopes to fulfill her goal of becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She shares her home with her two beautiful daughters and 2 energetic feline companions, Stella and Luna. Nichole enjoys the outdoors, kayaking, trail walks, camping and going to the park with her family.

Ashley & Skylar

Ashley is one of our Licensed Veterinary Technicians, she has been with us since 2019. She was born and raised downstate where she graduated from Macomb Community College Veterinary Technician Program with an Associates in Applied Sciences. She met and fell in love with her husband while vacationing here in northern michigan. They now live here and have three beautiful daughters, three dogs and one cat. Ashley is very compassionate about what she does, and it shows. There is not one aspect of veterinary medicine that interests the most, as she loves it all. Although, she definitely has a soft spot for senior pets. In her spare time, she loves working out, reading, and spending as much time as possible on her boat with the family.

Taylor & SaJa

Taylor joined us in the fall of 2018 after returning from teaching English in South Korea. She has a Bachelors in Zoology and had wanted to work in the veterinary field ever since her first word was "dog". She enjoys cuddling her cat Saja, reading, kayaking, and every other random hobby she comes across in her free time.
